Rajasthan Royals will have their eyes on the IPL 2024 Auction now that they have been eliminated from the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League. RR had an outside chance of qualifying for the playoffs, but after the Mumbai Indians defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium, the Rajasthan Royals were eliminated.
RR had the strongest team on paper in IPL 2023, yet somehow the Sanju Samson-led outfit finished outside the Top 4. The team management may now want to make some changes to the squad. Here’s a list of four players whom Rajasthan Royals might release before IPL 2024 Auction.
1. Rajasthan Royals may not retain Riyan Parag for IPL 2024
Riyan Parag had yet another forgettable IPL season with the Rajasthan Royals. The youngster failed to match expectations as a finisher. Sanju Samson did not use him much in the bowling department as well. Parag may return to the auction pool next year.
2. Rajasthan Royals may not retain Joe Root for IPL 2024
Joe Root had a forgettable debut season with the Rajasthan Royals. He warmed the benches for the majority of the season, when he got a chance to prove himself, the former England captain scored 10 runs off 15 balls. RR can free up an overseas spot by releasing him.
3. Jason Holder
Another foreign player of the RR franchise who could not impress much this season was Jason Holder. He was expected to be the team’s best all-rounder, but Holder managed only 12 runs and four wickets in eight matches.
4. Murugan Ashwin
Murugan Ashwin joined RR ahead of IPL 2023. The uncapped leg-spinner played two matches for the team, scalping zero wickets. Since his economy rate was 13.25, Ashwin may be released by the team.
