T20 World Cup is the grandest T20I tournament in the world, with teams from different parts of the planet competing against each other to win the prestigious trophy. The International Cricket Council organized this event for the first time in 2007, and the latest edition of the tournament is underway in Australia at the moment.
It is the dream of almost every cricketer to lead his nation at the grand stage of T20 World Cup. However, not everyone gets the chance to lead his side. Only the players with great leadership skills are awarded the captaincy of the squad. Players like MS Dhoni have captained their team in more than one edition of the mega event, but the following four forgotten T20 WC captains led their teams in a few matches only.
1. Adam Gilchrist – 2 matches
Former Australian wicket-keeper batter Adam Gilchrist led the nation in the inaugural T20 WC. Ricky Ponting was unavailable for the final few matches. Gilchrist led Australia to a 10-wicket win over Sri Lanka, but they were knocked out in the semifinals against India.
2. Dwayne Bravo – 1 match
Chris Gayle was the captain of the West Indies team in 2010 T20 WC, but he was not available for the team’s first match against Ireland. Dwayne Bravo led the Men in Maroon in that game, leading the team to a comfortable 70-run win.
3. Denesh Ramdin – 2 matches
Another West Indies player to feature on the list is Denesh Ramdin. He led the team in two matches during the 2009 edition of the mega event.
4. Stuart Broad – 9 matches
Stuart Broad has become a Test specialist for England, but not many fans would remember that the fast bowler was the captain of England’s T20I squad in the 2012 and 2014. He led the team in nine matches.
