IPL 2025 Mega Auction has been confirmed to take place, and it means that all teams have the option to hit the reboot button and form a new team now. On many occasions, fans have have noticed that the teams also go to shop for their captains at the mega auctions.
Several current skippers like Shreyas Iyer (Kolkata Knight Riders), Faf du Plessis (Royal Challengers Bangalore) KL Rahul (Lucknow Super Giants) and Shikhar Dhawan (Punjab Kings) joined their teams in the mega auction year of 2022. With some skippers inching closer towards retirement or need of a better option, the following four teams may hunt for a new skipper at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.
1. PBKS may go for a new captain at IPL 2025 Mega Auction
Punjab Kings have retained Shikhar Dhawan as their captain, but the southpaw is in the final phase of his career now. Also, the team’s results have not been so great. Perhaps, PBKS should relieve Dhawan of captaincy duties and allow him to enjoy his game.
2. SRH may go for a new captain at IPL 2025 Mega Auction
Sunrisers Hyderabad have changed their captain four times in four years. The trend might continue in 2025 because their new captain Pat Cummins has a habit of withdrawing from IPL at regular time intervals. He might do the same in 2025 as well.
3. CSK
Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni will continue playing in IPL 2024, but it is not known if he will continue in the 2025 season as well. Assuming Dhoni wants a future captain ready after him, CSK should shop for a captaincy option next year.
4. RCB
Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Faf du Plessis is also in the last phase of his career. Unless Virat Kohli says yes to become the captain again, RCB will need a new skipper for the 2025 season.
