At times, the selection committee gives preference to youngsters over senior players when the seniors perform below the expectations in a couple of series. The following five senior Indian cricketers are not a part of the current squad, and it seems unlikely they will play for India in ODIs again.

    1. One of the top Indian cricketers – Shikhar Dhawan

Left-handed opener Shikhar Dhawan was the backbone of the Indian batting lineup in the ICC events. However, a string of average performances after 2020 has led to Dhawan’s exit from the team. Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill have taken his place.

    2. One of the top Indian cricketers – Ravichandran Ashwin

Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is not in India’s plans for Asia Cup 2023. The next ODI World Cup will happen in 2027, and it looks highly unlikely that the off-spinner will earn a recall to the 50-over setup.

    3. Dinesh Karthik

Wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik was a member of India’s World Cup team in 2019. He also returned for T20 World Cup in 2022, but since he has not received a place in the lead up to World Cup 2023, he may never play for India in the 50-over format again.

    4. Piyush Chawla

Leg-spinner Piyush Chawla was a part of the Indian squad that won the 2011 World Cup. Chawla recently performed well for the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023. However, the selectors have not picked him in the Indian team.

    5. Amit Mishra

Another leg-spinner to feature on the list is Amit Mishra, who returned as a part of Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2023. Mishra has the hunger to perform well, but the selectors now prefer Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravi Bishnoi ahead of him.
