The tenth edition of the Big Bash League is currently underway Down Under, with eight top-class BBL clubs competing against each other to win the championship. The Sydney Sixers had won the title last year by defeating the Melbourne Stars in a rain-marred final. Some big Australian cricket stars like Aaron Finch, Kane Richardson, Mitchell Starc, and others will play in BBL 10.
Over the years, BBL has proved to be an excellent platform for the Australian players to show their talent to the world. Franchise owners of other T20 leagues have often shown interest in signing Aussie players. Their BBL performance is considered to determine their value.
This listicle will look at those five Australian players who can get an IPL contract next year by doing well in the Big Bash League.
5. Travis Head
Adelaide Strikers captain Travis Head has an outstanding record in T20 cricket. The left-handed batsman has represented the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL. Talking about his T20 numbers, the southpaw has aggregated over 2,000 runs in 80 T20 matches.
His strike rate of 136.09 highlights that Head can score some quick runs for his team. Since a few IPL teams need a reliable overseas top-order batsman in their lineup, Head could return to the IPL by performing well in the Big Bash League.
4. Morne Morkel
This entry might raise a few eyebrows, but former South African speedster Morne Morkel has now become an Australian. He has gained permanent residency in Australia. The Brisbane Heat team has roped him in a local player for BBL 10.
Morkel has won the Purple Cap award in the IPL previously. A superb bowling performance for Brisbane in the Big Bash League could help Morkel earn another IPL deal. Since he is 35-year-old, he could play two-three seasons more in his career.
3. James Faulkner
Former Rajasthan Royals star James Faulkner is quite popular among IPL fans. The all-rounder bowled brilliantly in the IPL and played a few handy knocks for his franchises. Apart from Rajasthan, the ambidextrous player also represented the Gujarat Lions.
Faulkner is a part of the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League. He is only 30 years old, meaning that he has many years of cricket left in him. IPL franchises love all-rounders. If Faulkner returns to his original form, he could earn an IPL contract soon.
2. Will Pucovski
Australia’s rising star Will Pucovski has not played a T20 at a higher level yet. The Melbourne Stars have signed the youngster for BBL 10. In case you didn’t know, Pucovski was on the verge of breaking into the Australian Test squad twice.
However, he could not make his debut because of some mental health issues. Pucovski will make his BBL debut this year. An impressive performance for the Stars could land him an IPL deal in 2021.
1. Moises Henriques
Moises Henriques impressed everyone with his three-wicket haul in the first T20I against the Indian cricket team. Henriques has played for multiple franchises in his IPL career.
The Portugal-born all-rounder is the skipper of the defending champions, Sydney Sixers. As mentioned ahead, there is a high demand for an all-rounder in the IPL. Hence, Henriques could earn a massive deal if he performs well for Sydney in the Big Bash League.
