Taking a 5-wicket haul in ODI cricket is the dream of every bowler who starts playing international cricket. However, not every bowler has been able to accomplish the feat. Some of the good bowlers ended their careers without a single 5-wicket haul to their name.
Some fans feel that taking five wickets in ODIs has higher probability than T20Is for a bowler because he gets to bowl 10 overs in an ODI match, compared to four overs in a T20I match. However, the following five bowlers have managed to take five wickets in an ODI match while bowling their half quota or even less than that.
5. Andrew Flintoff took a 5-wicket haul in 5 overs in his last ODI match
Former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff played his last ODI game against West Indies in 2009. In that match, he bowled five overs and returned with figures of 5/19. He is the only player to have accomplished this feat for England.
4. Robin Singh took a 5-wicket haul in 5 overs
Two Indian players feature on this list. One of them is Robin Singh, who bowled a spell of 5/22 against Sri Lanka in 5 overs. It was in a match at Guwahati during the year 1997.
3. Stuart Binny
Former Indian all-rounder Stuart Binny bowled the best ODI spell by Indian against Bangladesh in 2014. He bowled 4.4 overs, picked up six wickets and conceded only four runs. It was a once in a lifetime performance from Binny.
2. Courtney Walsh was the first bowler to take a 5-wicket haul inside 5 overs in ODI cricket
Former West Indies star Courtney Walsh made his ODI debut in 1985. In the second year of his ODI career, he bowled a magnificent spell of 5/1 against Sri Lanka. In a Champions Trophy match at Sharjah, Walsh dismissed five opposition batters in just 4.3 overs.

Zimbabwean all-rounder Ryan Burl set a new world record for the fastest five-wicket haul in terms of completed spells in ODI matches. He bowled just three overs in the third ODI of the recently-concluded series against Australia and returned with figures of 5/10.
