Playing Test matches for India is the ultimate dream of every cricketer in the country. The Indian Test team has been one of the most dominant ones in the World Test Championship history. Plus, there are so many first-class cricketers in the country competing for the 11 spots that when a player finally makes it, it feels like a major achievement, which it truly is.
However, at times, there have been instances of players getting dropped from the squad after their maiden call-up without playing any matches or the players playing just ODIs or T20Is without playing Tests. Here’s a list of five current Indian players you might not know have played 0 Test matches.
1. Yuzvendra Chahal has played 0 Test matches
Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has been the most successful bowler in the IPL. He even won T20 World Cup 2024 with the Indian team. Despite having a decent record in first-class matches, Chahal is yet to play a Test match.
2. Priyank Panchal has played 0 Test matches
Gujarat opener Priyank Panchal has been in and out of the Test squad. However, he has not received a chance to feature in the playing XI. He has fielded as a substitute player on multiple occasions.
3. Abhimanyu Easwaran
Like Priyank Panchal, Abhimanyu Easwaran has been in and out of the Test squad without getting a chance to play for the nation. Easwaran is currently playing in the Duleep Trophy tournament.
4. Ruturaj Gaikwad
Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has been a regular member of India’s white-ball teams. He even captained India to Asian Games 2023 gold medal, but the team management is yet to pick him in Tests.
5. Sanju Samson
Another IPL team captain to feature on the list is Sanju Samson, the Rajasthan Royals skipper. Samson has been a prolific performer for Kerala in domestic cricket and even won T20 World Cup 2024. However, he is yet to don the whites for the country.
