Mumbai Indians are one of the most decorated franchises in IPL history. They have won the trophy five times, and one of the best things about MI is that they sign new players and transform them into superstars.
Several Indian as well as overseas players were uncapped at the international level when they earned a contract from Mumbai Indians. However, after playing for MI, their stocks catapulted to a whole new level. Unfortunately, the same was not true for the following five foreign players.
1. Aiden Blizzard never got an IPL team after Mumbai Indians
Former Australian opener Aiden Blizzard was Sachin Tendulkar’s opening partner at one point in IPL. Despite the left-handed batter’s swashbuckling performances, no team showed interest in him after MI let him go in 2015.
2. Mitchell McClenaghan never got an IPL team after Mumbai Indians
New Zealand’s left-arm fast bowler Mitchell McClenaghan was among the top wicket-takers for MI during his prime. However, after MI let him go, the left-arm seamer did not generate any interest at the auction table.
3. Dilhara Fernando
Another fast bowler to feature on this list is Sri Lanka’s Dilhara Fernando. He was quite underrated as a right-arm fast bowler, and after MI released him, the Sri Lankan player never got another contract.
4. Davey Jacobs
After a dream run in CLT20, Davey Jacobs got an IPL deal from the Mumbai-based franchise. However, he could not continue that form in IPL and got released from MI soon.
5. Chris Lynn
Australian opener Chris Lynn was among the most destructive batters in world cricket at one point of time. Lynn’s last IPL appearance came for MI in 2021, where he performed well against RCB. However, MI still dropped him and released him, post which he has been unsold at the auctions.
