IPL 2008 auction was the first major event in the Indian Premier League. At that time, neither the players nor the fans had any idea about the storm that this tournament would bring in the cricket world. It was new to see players being sold at the auctions.
Cricketers from different countries registered their names for the inaugural auction, and many players became millionaires as well. However, there were quite a few players, who remained unsold at the inaugural auction, and the following five names played never ever played in the tournament.
1. Mohammed Yousuf was unsold at IPL 2008 Auction
Pakistan players were allowed to participate in the first IPL season. In fact, three Pakistani players, namely Kamran Akmal, Sohail Tanvir and Younis Khan even won the trophy with Rajasthan Royals. However, their compatriot Mohammed Yousuf was unsold.
2. Peter Fulton was unsold at IPL 2008 Auction
Former New Zealand opener Peter Fulton played some impressive knocks in white-ball cricket at the international level. However, the IPL franchises were not interested in the Kiwi batter’s services.
3. Jamie How
Another former New Zealand opener to feature on the list is Jamie How. He was a talented batter from New Zealand, but again, the IPL teams did not have any interest in him.
4. Chris Martin
Known for his fast bowling skills, Chris Martin majorly played Test cricket for the New Zealand team. Although many fast bowlers were sold at the inaugural auction, Martin wasn’t one of them.
5. Phil Jacques
Australian batter Phil Jacques played 11 Test matches and six ODIs for his country. However, the IPL franchises did not raise the peddle when his name came up at the auction. He never made his IPL debut.
