Almost all cricket fans would know by now that the Chennai Super Kings have bought a franchise in the new T20 league of South Africa. Johannesburg is the new base of CSK, and it should not be a surprise if the team owners name it as Joburg Super Kings.
CSK is a big brand, and they will be keen to grow it by adding some well-known names to the Johannesburg roster. Some of the retired Indian players will be eligible to play in this league, and the following five ex-Chennai Super Kings players might don the Johannesburg jersey soon.
1. Former CSK captain Suresh Raina could lead Johannesburg
Suresh Raina was the backbone of the Chennai Super Kings team for many years. He played 176 matches for CSK, scoring 4,687 runs and picking up 24 wickets. Because of his experience of playing in South Africa, Raina could be a top pick for the Johannesburg franchise.
2. Former CSK fast bowler Manpreet Gony could star for Johannesburg
Manpreet Gony was a match-winner for CSK in their initial seasons. He could a similar job for Johannesburg in the first few seasons of the CSA T20 League. Gony has played in Global T20 Canada and Lanka Premier League before.
3. Former CSK batter S Badrinath could be a game-changer for Johannesburg
S Badrinath was an underrated hero of the CSK franchise in the initial years. He has retired now but plays in Legends League. Badrinath could be a solid addition to Johannesburg’s batting order.
4. Sudeep Tyagi
Sudeep Tyagi is one of the many Indian players who made their debuts after playing well for CSK. Tyagi played in Lanka Premier League and could make himself available to play in CSA’s league.
5. Joginder Sharma
India’s ICC T20 World Cup 2007 hero Joginder Sharma will return to the field in Legends League T20 2022. If he impresses in that competition, he may even earn a contract from the Johannesburg franchise.
