2023 was an important year for the Indian cricketers. With Asia Cup and ICC ODI World Cup happening in the year, fans had high hopes from the Indian cricketers. India ended up winning the Asia Cup and finished as runners-up in the ODI World Cup on home soil.
The Indian selection committee took some big calls in the year 2023. Under the chairmanship of Ajit Agarkar and Chetan Sharma, careers of some cricketers have come to a pause because the selectors gave up on them. Here’s a list of five such players.
1. One of the top Indian cricketers – Shikhar Dhawan
Shikhar Dhawan is the man of ICC tournaments. He was India’s ODI captain in 2021 and 2022, but in the World Cup year, Dhawan lost his place to Shubman Gill. He was also ignored in T20I and Test formats.
2. One of the top Indian cricketers – Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Nicknamed as King of Swing, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has not received a chance to play for India in 2023. After his lackluster performance in death overs in 2022, Kumar lost his place in ODI and T20I teams.
3. Umran Malik
Express pacer Umran Malik made his debut for the Indian team in 2022. However, he did not get too many chances to play for the Men in Blue in the year 2023.
4. Jayant Yadav
Jayant Yadav was always present in India’s squad as a backup spinner. He also played ODI cricket for India in 2022, but in 2023, he was nowhere near the Indian team in any format.
5. Venkatesh Iyer
Venkatesh Iyer was touted to be the next Hardik Pandya of India in 2022. However, in 2023, he did not get a chance to play for India. He was not selected even in second-string squads.
