The Indian squad for the T20I series against Zimbabwe will reportedly be picked tomorrow. India will likely send a second-string squad to Zimbabwe for the five T20Is, which will take place in the first half of July. Almost all players playing in T20 World Cup 2024 for India will be rested for the series.
In that case, the reserve players in the ongoing mega event like Rinku Singh, Avesh Khan, Khaleel Ahmed and Shubman Gill will get a chance to play. There might be some new faces as well. Here’s a list of five uncapped players who may earn their maiden T20I call-up for the series versus Zimbabwe.
1. Harshit Rana might play in T20I series against Zimbabwe
Pace-bowling all-rounder Harshit Rana had a phenomenal season with Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024. He also has a decent record for India ‘A’, which is why the selectors might name him in the Indian squad for the upcoming tour.
2. Riyan Parag might play in T20I series against Zimbabwe
After being backed for so many years, Riyan Parag finally delivered the goods for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2024. Since he also has the experience of playing for India ‘A’, Parag might get a chance to play against Zimbabwe.
3. Abhishek Sharma
Another uncapped all-rounder to feature on the list is Abhishek Sharma. The southpaw provided explosive starts at the top for Sunrisers Hyderabad. India can benefit if they have an opener like him in T20Is.
4. Nitish Kumar Reddy
India had a dearth of pace-bowling all-rounders in the past. However, thanks to IPL, India has many such players now. One of them is Nitish Kumar Reddy, who won the Emerging Player of the Tournament award in IPL 2024.
5. Yash Dayal
Left-arm pacers have proven to be difference-makers in international cricket. India already have two solid left-arm pace options in Arshdeep Singh and Khaleel Ahmed. Grooming someone like Yash Dayal as the third option will add depth to the lineup.
