The Indian Test team is among the top teams in the world. Over the last few years, the team has been undergoing a transition. Many players have received opportunities to prove themselves. Players like Axar Patel, Shreyas Iyer, Shubman Gill and Mohammad Siraj have cemented their places in the team.
On the other side, there have been some players, who have been ignored despite a good performance in the longest format of the game. Here is a list of five such players who were mysteriously dropped from the Indian Test team.
1. Hanuma Vihari was recently dropped from Indian Test team
Hanuma Vihari will always be remembered for the way he batted throughout the majority of Day 5 of the third Test against Australia in 2020/21 despite being injured. He has been a proven performer in Test cricket for India, but he was not picked for the ongoing series against Bangladesh.
2. T Natarajan has played only 1 match for the Indian Test team
Left-arm fast bowler T Natarajan made his Test debut in the historic Brisbane Test against Australia in 2021. He performed decently, but he did not get another Test cap. Recently, the team management recalled Jaydev Unadkat after 12 years but did not consider Natarajan.
3. Washington Sundar was recently dropped from Indian Test team
Washington Sundar has played some memorable knocks for the Indian team in brief Test career. However, the selectors did not pick him for the ongoing WTC series against Bangladesh.
4. Shahbaz Nadeem
Left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem made his Test debut back in 2019. However, he has played only two Tests so far. He has so much experience under his belt, but it looks like young Saurabh Kumar has jumped ahead of him in the race.
5. Karun Nair
It is rare to see a player who has scored a triple hundred in Test cricket to play only six Tests in his career. Karun Nair deserved a longer rope from the selectors, but he was mysteriously dropped.
