IPL is the number one tournament among all the T20 leagues in the world, and many foreign players aim to become a part of this competition one day. However, earning an IPL contract is not a simple job. A foreign player needs to prove himself in international matches or show a special spark in domestic cricket to earn the attention of the Indian Premier League franchises.

Fans should note that even though a player earns a contract from a franchise, it does not mean that he will play all the matches. Due to four overseas players rule, there have been multiple instances when a foreign cricketer returned home without playing any games. Here’s a list of five players who earned an Indian Premier League contract but never played in the league.

    1. Tamim Iqbal was a part of Pune Warriors squad in IPL 2012

Pune Warriors were a part of the league from 2011 to 2013. During the 2012 season, they roped in Bangladesh’s star opener Tamim Iqbal. However, the left-handed batter could not make his debut. He did not earn contracts from other teams in the league.

    4. Chirag Suri

    5. Nuwan Pradeep

Sri Lankan pacer Nuwan Pradeep was signed by RCB in 2011 even before his international debut. However, he did not make his debut and never earned a contract after making his debut for Sri Lanka.
