Former Indian selector Saba Karim recently named the best white-ball spinner of the Indian cricket team. In his view, no other spinner is ahead of Yuzvendra Chahal right now as far as the white-ball formats are concerned. Chahal has been in excellent form this year as he won the Purple Cap award in IPL 2022 and also starred in India’s wins in ODIs and T20Is.

One of the main reasons behind Chahal’s success is that he does not rely too much on the pitch and conditions on offer. He focuses on his line and length and tries to outwit the batters with his variations. Yesterday, in the third ODI of the series between the Indian cricket team and the West Indies cricket team, Chahal took a four-wicket haul, helping Team India win the series by 3-0.

Commenting on the magnificent performance from Chahal in the 3rd ODI, Saba Karim said on India News TV channel:

“Chahal is a very intelligent bowler. Depending on the batter he is bowling to, he changes his wrist position as well as the angle from which he delivers the ball. In white-ball cricket, he is definitely India’s best spinner, ahead of Jadeja, Ashwin and Axar Patel.”

Saba Karim explains why Yuzvendra Chahal is so successful in white-ball cricket

During the same discussion, Karim mentioned that Yuzvendra Chahal has performed well for the Indian cricket team in India, England and now in West Indies this year. In his view, the way he varies his wrist position is the trick that helps him achieve so much success.

Former Indian cricket team player Reetinder Singh Sodhi was also a part of the same discussion, and he said that the other teams participating in ICC T20 World Cup 2022 should notice and prepare for Chahal. He felt Chahal’s recent performances are like an alarm bell for the other teams.
