Team India has had the influence of IPL ever since the inception of the league. This has helped India to have a good playing XI and an excellent bench. However, in recent years, there have been instances of IPL performers failing at the international level. Hence, the selectors have become wary of selecting the IPL performers straightaway. Nevertheless, when there are talents that cannot be ignored, the selectors do take the chance to include them early in the squad. On that note, in this article, we take a look at five IPL-driven selections that could be made for the South Africa T20I series.
India’s next assignment will be the T20I series in June against South Africa. The top stars could be rested and hence, there is a chance that the IPL 2022 performers could get a chance. We take a look at five of them in this article:
1) Mohsin Khan
Mohsin Khan fills the template of cricketer that India has been looking for. A tall left-arm pacer who can hit the deck hard is a requirement that India has searched a lot for. Mohsin finally seems to be a viable option for this slot. The solid performances for Lucknow Super Giants will further make the selectors consider his selection for the series.
2) Umran Malik
Umran Malik‘s inclusion is one of the IPL-driven selections that could be made for the South Africa T20I series. Raw pace is a rare attribute and Umran has oodles of it. He has decent control over it as seen in recent IPL games. Although he does not hold a good domestic record, the selectors could still go for the player.
3) Arshdeep Singh
Arshdeep Singh does not pick a lot of wickets and for the same reason, he does not lead a lot of bowling charts even at the domestic level. Nevertheless, for those who have seen him bowl, it is clear that Arshdeep is a top bowler. He is also someone who can bowl a few overs in the power play. These factors make him a probable selection for the event.
4) Rahul Tripathi
Rahul Tripathi‘s inclusion is also one of the IPL-driven selections that could be made for the South Africa T20I series. Although he does not fire often in domestic cricket, in recent years, Rahul has been terrific in IPL. Since the likes of Rohit, Virat and KL Rahul could be rested, Rahul Tripathi has a good chance of getting selected to the squad.
5) Kuldeep Yadav
Kuldeep Yadav has been good in this IPL but in the last few months, he has not been in great form. However, considering his experience of having done well for India, the selectors could pick him. That also depends on if Hardik Pandya can bowl. If he cannot bowl, India will need a third pacer and Kuldeep cannot get a chance considering Yuzvendra Chahal is an automatic pick.
