Cricket World Cup 2023 will happen in India in October and November this year. 10 teams will participate in the mega event, and seven of them have already been decided. Hosts India were the first to qualify for the mega event. Soon after, Australia, Bangladesh, England, Pakistan, Afghanistan and New Zealand confirmed their berth by performing well in ICC Cricket World Cup Super League.
The other three spots of the mega event are still up for grabs, with one of them set to be decided soon as the Super League comes to an end. The remaining two spots will be decided via an ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier tournament in Zimbabwe.
10 teams will compete in the qualifier as well, and here’s a list of the five nations in the qualifier rounds who could make it to the World Cup for the first time ever.
1. Nepal can qualify for Cricket World Cup 2023
Nepal made a dramatic entry into the qualifier by winning 11 of their last 12 matches in the Super League 2. They beat UAE in their last match to seal their berth in the qualifiers.
2. Jersey can qualify for Cricket World Cup 2023
Jersey is not a well-known cricketing nation, but they topped the Challenger League and made it to the qualifiers playoff. If they continue their top form, Jersey can make it to the big stage.
3. Oman
Oman have qualified for the Qualifier as well by finishing second in Super League 2. They won 21 of their 36 matches to make it to the 10-team event in Zimbabwe.
4. Papua New Guinea
Papua New Guinea finished in the bottom four of the Super League 2 points table, but they still have a chance of making a comeback. They will have to play in the qualifiers playoff in Namibia.
5. USA
United States of America have also made it to the qualifiers playoffs after finishing in the bottom four of the Super League 2.
