Sunrisers Hyderabad made a big decision ahead of the IPL 2023 Auction as they let go of their captain Kane Williamson. SRH now need a new player who can take the franchise forward. While it is possible that SRH try to re-sign Williamson at a lower price, the auction dynamics could take that option away from him as other teams may also target him.
In that scenario, SRH could look to sign one of the following four players as their captain for the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League:
1. Dasun Shanaka could lead SRH
Dasun Shanaka showcased his leadership skills while captaining the Sri Lankan cricket team in Asia Cup 2022. He is a good leader and a fantastic pace-bowling all-rounder as well. Shanaka could make SRH a very strong team in IPL 2023.
2. Ben Stokes could lead SRH
Ben Stokes has confirmed his availability for the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League. The star England all-rounder is a big-match player, and he has won the IPL MVP award once as well. Stokes can be a game-changer for the Hyderabad-based franchise.
3. Mohammad Nabi
Kolkata Knight Riders have released their all-rounder Mohammad Nabi before the IPL 2023 Auction. Nabi played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the past and did a decent job for the team. He has a ton of experience as captain and could be an underrated option to lead the Orange Army.
4. Shakib Al Hasan
Another former SRH player to appear on the list is Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan. Like Mohammad Nabi, Shakib knows how to lead a team. He can do a good job for the franchise.
5. Nicholas Pooran could lead SRH
Nicholas Pooran has been released by Hyderabad before IPL 2023. He is an explosive wicket-keeper batter and also the captain of West Indies, which is why the Sunrisers may target him.
