BCCI has announced that IPL 2021 would resume in UAE during September and October this year. However, since the tournament has now been scheduled so close to World T20, a few overseas cricketers might likely pull out. Ashley Giles has already confirmed that the Englishman may not participate. If Sam Curran misses IPL 2021, it would be a big blow for CSK.

CSK has started IPL 2021 on a good note. At the centre of this impressive campaign has been Sam Curran and Moeen Ali. It will be a major setback if CSK is to do without the English duo. It is likely that BCCI would allow franchisees to sign replacements. In that scenario, here are five players whom CSK can target if Curran misses IPL 2021.

1) Devon Conway – The Best Replacement Option If Curran Misses IPL 2021

Assuming New Zealand cricketers would play in the second phase of IPL 2021, CSK could target signing happening cricketer Devon Conway as a replacement for Sam Curran. The southpaw, who recently got a Test double century on debut, is one of the best T20 batsmen at the moment. He can play at the top of the order and strengthen the batting department, thereby allowing an extra Indian bowler to play. This would suit the overall balance of the squad.

2) Wanindu Hasaranga

Wanindu Hasaranga is one cricketer who will fit perfectly into the philosophy at CSK. The franchise likes multi-utility cricketers and Hasaranga is slowly improving in this aspect. He has arguably been Sri Lanka’s best cricketer in recent months. After a good show in the Lankan Premier League, the leg-spinning all-rounder has replicated his performances for his country. He is in form and CSK can target him.

3) Isuru Udana – A Like-To-Like Replacement If Curran Misses IPL 2021

There were a lot of expectations of Isuru Udana in IPL 2020. However, the Sri Lankan man failed to deliver. He leaked runs often and was not effective with the bat. That said, things could be different when he turns out for CSK, where he would operate under lesser pressure. He could do the exact duty that Sam Curran was doing and thereby not tinker much with the winning combination.

4) Colin de Gradhomme

Colin de Grandhomme has not been part of IPL in the past few seasons. After RCB released him, no other franchise has invested in the cricketer. Considering he is a trademark T20 cricketer, this was surprising. Nevertheless, CSK can make use of the Kiwi in their line-up. His destruction with the bat is well-known and CDG can also do a good job with the ball. Especially in the middle-overs, the tall all-rounder would be useful. Hence, CSK can target him.

5) Kevin O’Brien

It will be a big statement if CSK manages to sign Kevin O’Brien as Sam Curran’s replacement. The Irish player has been a proper T20 cricketer but has so far not got his chance in IPL. Although he is 37, he can still be a good addition to CSK. He is still a destructive batsman and can be useful with his medium pace on the pitches at UAE.
