Mumbai Indians became the second team in Indian Premier League history to attain the 10th spot on the points table. The Mumbai-based franchise started their season with eight defeats in eight matches. Playing under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, the five-time champions lost matches even from positions where it looked like they would win them.

MI made a decent comeback in the second half of the season and emerged victorious in four of their last six matches to earn eight points. Considering the team’s disappointing performance in IPL 2022, the team management will have to make some big decisions ahead of IPL 2023. Here are five players MI might release:

    1. Mumbai Indians might not retain Jaydev Unadkat

The pace attack of the Mumbai-based franchise let the team down. Experienced Indian fast bowler Jaydev Unadkat played five matches for the team, scalping six wickets at an economy rate of 9.50. His expensive economy rate may lead to his release.

    2. Mumbai Indians may release Kieron Pollard

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra recently opined that MI may release Kieron Pollard and add 6 crore to their purse after the all-rounder scored only 144 runs at a strike rate of around 110 in 11 matches of IPL 2022.

    3. Mumbai Indians might let go of Tristan Stubbs

Tristan Stubbs is a talented player, but it looked like he was not ready to play in the IPL this year. MI could look for an experienced overseas batter by releasing Stubbs.

    4. Tymal Mills

English pacer Tymal Mills failed to make an impact in the MI colors. He picked up six wickets in five matches for the team, with his economy rate being more than 11. Also, his frequency of getting injured may lead to his release.

    5. Basil Thampi

Uncapped Indian pacer Basil Thampi took five wickets in five matches at an economy rate of 9.50. MI may look to revamp their pace attack ahead of IPL 2023.
