Asia Cup 2022 started earlier today with a match between former champions Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. Although Sri Lanka have been more successful than Afghanistan in Asia Cup history, it did not seem like that when the two teams battled at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Afghanistan absolutely crushed Sri Lanka as they completed a successful run-chase inside 11 overs with eight wickets in hand. Apart from Afghanistan and Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Hong Kong and Bangladesh are participating in Asia Cup 2022.
All nations have named star-studded squads for this tournament, but the following five stars have been ruled out of the tournament due to injury.
1. Shaheen Afridi is not playing Asia Cup 2022
Pakistan’s left-arm fast bowler Shaheen Afridi had been ruled out of the Asia Cup tournament because of injury. Afridi sustained an injury in his right knee’s ligament while fielding for Pakistan in the ICC World Test Championship series against Sri Lanka.
2. Jasprit Bumrah is not playing Asia Cup 2022
Like Pakistan, India do not have their number one pacer in their Asia Cup squad. Right-arm fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will miss the tournament because of a back injury.
3. Harshal Patel is not playing Asia Cup 2022
Another Indian pacer to feature on the list is IPL 2021’s Most Valuable Player, Harshal Patel. The right-arm pacer has a side strain, which is why he is not playing in the Asia Cup.
4. Mohammad Wasim Jr.
Pakistan’s fast bowler Mohammad Wasim Jr. has also been ruled out of Asia Cup because of a side strain. He sustained the injury during a practice session before the tournament.
5. Dushmantha Chameera
Sri Lanka received a major blow ahead of the Asia Cup as their star pace bowler Dushmantha Chameera was ruled out with a leg injury. He has much experience under his belt.
