With the uncertainties regarding the host nation Sri Lanka for the upcoming Asia Cup set to be played during August and September, neighbour Bangladesh has been put in the line by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
As per decided, the Asia Cup is set to take its centre-stage in Sri Lanka, the official host for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022, to be contested by some of the biggest Asian cricket team, including the likes of Team India, Pakistan, Bangladesh.
All must be aware of the financial and political crisis that is going on in Sri Lanka for over the last couple of month. There has been protest all-over the country with President and Prime Minister held hostage.
In such situation, there are uncertainties raising over the probability of Sri Lanka hosting the competition. As such, Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has asked Bangladesh to be on the stand-by if needs be.
While Sri Lanka remain hopeful of hosting the Asia’s biggest cricket entertainment after successfully hosting Australia for limited overs and the Test series recently, where they got massive response from the Lankan people, however, a decision will only be taken by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in a meeting later this month.
As for Bangladesh, they have already hosted the Asia Cup previously in the year 2016 and the even the 2014 T20 World Cup along with Sri Lanka, that eventually Sri Lanka won beating India in the final match of the tournament.
The last edition of the tournament was played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) which was hosted by India but had to move its venue due to political tensions between India and Pakistan.
Defending champions India did still won the competition beating Bangladesh in a thrilling final match where it was a tense moment through the last 2 over with India winning it only on the last ball of the match by leg-byes.
