Sri Lanka leveled the two-match ICC World Test Championship series against the Australian cricket team by winning the second match in Galle earlier today. The second Test match finished inside four days as the islanders performed brilliantly with the ball and helped their team register a win by an innings and 39 runs.
It is the first time the Australian cricket team has lost an ICC World Test Championship match under the captaincy of Pat Cummins. Fans should note that Cummins won the toss and elected to bat first at the Galle International Stadium. The decision seemed to have worked in the Aussies’ favor as they scored 364 runs on the board in the first innings.
Both Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne scored centuries for the Australian cricket team. In reply, the Sri Lankan cricket team rode on a double ton from Dinesh Chandimal to post a 554-run total on the scorecard. The Sri Lankan cricket team took a massive first innings lead of 190 runs.
The Australian cricket team got bundled out for 151 runs in the second innings with Prabhath Jayasuriya scalping six wickets as the islanders won the Test by an innings and 39 runs. Here’s what Chandimal said after winning the Man of the Series award:
“I’m over the moon. Especially if you’re performing well and the team is winning, that is a really good feeling. I’m really happy with how I played, especially in Galle, which can be a tough track to bat on. I didn’t have any specific plans, I just wanted to be proactive against the spinners and at the same time rotate the strike.”
