IPL 2024 Auction will happen next month in Dubai. Before the mini auction, all 10 franchises were asked to declare their respective list of players retained and released ahead of the new season. All 10 teams have met the deadline of 4 pm on November 26.
As expected, the players who did not impress much in the previous season have been released. Some capped Indian cricketers like Harshal Patel, Jaydev Unadkat and Shardul Thakur feature on the list. At the same time, there were some players who were surprisingly retained. Here’s a list of five such names.
1. Prithvi Shaw retained before IPL 2024 Auction
Prithvi Shaw had the worst season of his IPL career in 2023. Also, he has been in the news for all wrong reasons of late. Still, Delhi Capitals have backed him and given him another chance to prove himself.
2. Arjun Tendulkar retained before IPL 2024 Auction
Arjun Tendulkar was dropped from Mumbai Indians’ playing XI after a few matches in IPL 2023. Still, MI have backed Tendulkar Jr. and given him a new contract.
3. Riyan Parag
Uncapped all-rounder Riyan Parag continues to be a part of the Rajasthan Royals team. His performance in domestic cricket is excellent, but Parag is yet to prove himself as a consistent performer in the IPL.
4. Abdul Samad
Like Riyan Parag, Abdul Samad has an impressive record in domestic cricket, but the same cannot be said about his IPL career. Perhaps, SRH could have released him and bought him for a cheaper price.
5. Deepak Hooda
Deepak Hooda had the worst season of his IPL career in 2023, where he averaged less than 8 with the bat. Luckily for Hooda, LSG have given him one more chance to showcase his talent.
