Punjab Kings made their debut in the year 2008 as Kings XI Punjab. They have been a part of every IPL season played so far. However, the Mohali-based franchise has failed to lift the trophy even once. They made it to the final of the 2014 edition of the Indian Premier League, where the Kolkata Knight Riders defeated them in a nail-biting thriller.
Since then, PBKS have made quite a few changes to their squads, but they have never managed to qualify for the playoffs as well. Some players who once played for the Punjab team in IPL left the franchise, joined another team and then became the champions. Here’s a list of five such players.
1. Yuvraj Singh won IPL twice after leaving Punjab Kings
Yuvraj Singh had two stints with PBKS. He was their captain in 2008 and left the team in 2010. In 2016, he won the title with SRH. In 2018, PBKS signed Singh again and then released him before the 2019 season. MI signed him next, and he won the title in 2019.
2. David Miller won IPL after leaving Punjab Kings
South African star David Miller was the captain of PBKS in a few matches. He was the main overseas player of the team. Miller joined GT in 2022 and won the title that year.
3. Wriddhiman Saha
Wicket-keeper batter Wriddhiman Saha had scored a hundred for PBKS in the IPL 2014 Final. Saha also joined GT in 2022 and then won the title.
4. Mohammed Shami
Another former PBKS player who won the championship with the Gujarat Titans in 2022 is Mohammed Shami. The right-arm fast bowler played a pivotal role in GT’s win.
5. Shardul Thakur
Not many fans would know that Thakur made his debut in the league for PBKS in 2015. He left the franchise soon, and in 2018 and 2021, he won the title with CSK.
