IPL has always been a cradle of emerging talents. From Jasprit Bumrah to Virat Kohli, from Rohit Sharma to Suresh Raina, the tournament has been the breeding ground of monsters.
And yet there have been a few players who could have actually kissed the skies and yet stumbled in their first chapter. Here are five players who played just one game in IPL 2013 and never returned.
#1 Thalaivan Sargunam
The talented batter featured for quite a handful of teams starring the likes of Badureliya Sports Club, Chepauk Super Gillies, Siechem Madurai Panthers amongst many others. However, his highlight was when he got picked for IPL for SRH. In 2013, he played just a solitary game and could score just 10 runs in it. Following that he never returned.
#2 Bharat Chipli
Touted as a massive name for Karnataka, Bharat Chipli was an instrumental part of the Deccan Chargers side before they went defunct. However, his last game in the history of IPL came in 2013 when he donned the threads of the Delhi Capitals, formerly known as Delhi Daredevils.
#3 Paul Valthaty
One of the most highly rated talents of IPL 2011, Paul played for Punjab Kings while scoring 463 runs. However, with every passing year, his numbers slumped and the following two seasons he could only manage 30 runs from six games while in 2013, he could score just six runs from one game and never returned to the IPL again.
#4 Michael Neser
Labelled as one of the most promising bowlers in the making back then, Neser found himself making it all the way to the IPL. After brilliant numbers in the Vitality Blast and the BBL, he was picked by PBKS but he would only play one game for them and would concede 62 runs from four overs, following which he wouldn’t get picked up.
#5 Dimitri Mascarenhas
Dimi Mascarenhas who smacked Yuvraj Singh for five sixes in an over would be rated pretty loftily in the IPL before he would join hands with Rajasthan Royals.
However, his diminishing returns started posing some serious questions and by 2013, franchises realized that he is no longer the hard-hitting, soul-crushing all-rounder but just another cricketer who is done with IPL. His last match came for PBKS where he scored an unbeaten five and conceded 25 runs from four overs.
