The Indian Premier League 2024 will get underway on March 22. This will be the 17th edition of the cash-rich league, which started way back in 2008. Chennai Super Kings, who won the last season, will defend their title and eye to win it again.
MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma are some big names that have been part of the IPL since the beginning. They will play in another edition of the tournament. However, there are five such stars, as you might not know, that played the inaugural season in 2008 and will be in action again in the IPL 2024.
5. Ishant Sharma
Veteran Indian pacer Ishant Sharma is one of the most experienced bowlers in the league. He missed six IPL seasons in between, but he is one of the few players to play in 2008 and will play in the 2024 season. He made his IPL debut for KKR in 2008 and will play for the Delhi Capitals in the 2024 season.
4. Piyush Chawla
Veteran Indian leg-spinner Piyush Chawla has been part of the IPL for a long time now. He made his IPL debut in 2008 for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings). He is one of the highest wicket-takers in the IPL’s history. Chawla has played for three different franchises and will be playing for the Mumbai Indians in the coming IPL 2024.
3. Wriddhiman Saha
Veteran Indian keeper Wriddhiman Saha has been another name that has been a key part of the IPL since the inaugural season. Saha has reached the final stage of his career, but he is still going pretty strong. He made his IPL debut for KKR in 2008 and played for five different IPL teams overall. He will be in action for Gujarat Titans in the coming IPL 2024.
2. Rishi Dhawan
Indian all-rounder Rishi Dhawan is a big name on the Indian domestic circuit. He has been a consistent performer for his team. But in the IPL, he didn’t find much success, which is why he has played 38 games in the nine seasons he has played in his IPL career. Rishi made his debut in 2008 for the Punjab Kings and will be playing for the same franchise in the IPL 2024 as well.
1. Swapnil Singh
One of the most unknown names for many of the fans on this list is Swapnil Singh. The 33-year-old, who plays for Baroda at the domestic level, was part of the IPL 2008. He was picked by the Mumbai Indians but didn’t play a game. Then, he was picked by PBKS for 2016 and 2017 and didn’t play a game. In 2023, LSG signed him, and he played two matches. Now, he will play for RCB in the coming IPL 2024.
