ICC T20 World Cup 2022 is just a few months away, and this is the time where the star cricketers begin their main practice sessions for the tournament. While teams like India, Australia and South Africa are busy preparing for the big event, some other teams have suffered a few big blows as their senior players retired from T20Is this year.
Two players from Bangladesh and a player each from West Indies, England and Pakistan have decided to end their T20I careers just a few months before ICC T20 World Cup 2022. Here’s a list of those five players.
1. Tamim Iqbal retired from T20Is 4 months before T20 World Cup 2022
Bangladesh’s experienced left-handed batter Tamim Iqbal has been playing in other formats regularly. However, in July 2022, he decided to retire from T20Is. Last year, he took a break from the format to give the juniors a chance, and now, he has stepped away completely.
2. Mushfiqur Rahim retired from T20Is 1 month before T20 World Cup 2022
Veteran Bangladesh wicket-keeper Mushfiqur Rahim shockingly announced his retirement from T20Is after Bangladesh’s early exit from Asia Cup 2022. He will focus more on Tests and ODIs now.
3. Kieron Pollard
Kieron Pollard, who captained West Indies in ICC T20 World Cup last year, called it a day on his international career during the IPL this year. He is now aiming to play in more T20 leagues.
4. Eoin Morgan
Due to injuries and poor form, Eoin Morgan, who led England to the semifinals in the T20 World Cup last year, retired earlier this year. Jos Buttler has replaced him as the England captain now.
5. Mohammad Hafeez
Mohammad Hafeez was one of the first cricketers to retire in 2022. He retired from all formats of international cricket in January 2022. He played for Pakistan in the T20 World Cup last year.
