Jay Shah has become the new chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Shah, who had a lengthy stint as the BCCI Secretary, will head the global body now. It will be the first time in a long time since an Indian administrator will be the ICC chief.
The best thing about Shah’s appointment was that he was elected unopposed, which is why all member boards will agree with his decisions now. Here’s a list of five things which Jay Shah will likely change after becoming the ICC Chairman.
1. Jay Shah will increase Test matches for lower-ranked teams
Shah has been a fan of Test matches. There have already been reports of ICC creating a fund to support the lower-ranked teams so that they can sustain in the longest format, and Shah will likely approve that fund.
2. More spice to ICC tournaments
Over the last few years, Shah made the Indian cricket more powerful than ever with different additions and innovations. Like he made IPL the hottest tournament in the world, expect him to make some changes to ICC tournaments so they feel more important than ever.
3. Less bilateral cricket, more tri-series and tournaments
It was evident that bilateral cricket has become irrelevant during the last few years. The tri-series should return, and Shah knows how the viewership game works. Also, if he introduces tri-series in FTPs, there is a possibility that India and Pakistan can participate in that.
4. Clear window for all leagues
Right now, the international cricket calendar is quite cluttered with too many leagues happening everywhere. As a fan, it is difficult to follow all the tournaments. Under Shah’s regime, one can expect a better organization of all leagues under ICC’s watch.
