Women’s IPL will get underway next year. It was a long wait for the Indian fans to see a women’s league in the country like the Women’s Big Bash League and the Women’s Hundred competitions. In recent years, the BCCI organized the Women’s T20 Challenge, which was a tri-series featuring three franchises.

However, the women’s IPL will have a proper competition, with teams representing either zones or cities depending on the team owners’ wish. Cricbuzz reported the details of the women’s IPL earlier today, and here are five important things which fans need to know.

    1. 5 overseas players in the playing XI in Women’s IPL

Unlike men’s IPL, the teams in women’s tournament can play with five foreign players. However, the rule is that only four can be from Test-playing nations, while one should be from an Associate nation.

    3. How many teams will play in women’s IPL?

According to a report by Cricbuzz, five teams will participate in the inaugural edition of the tournament. The board has planned two systems to decide the team names and host cities.

    4. New teams

BCCI is thinking about two options. One is to sell the franchises to men’s team owners and have the same base city. The second option is to sell the teams zone-wise to non-IPL cities. Here is the list: North (Dharamsala/Jammu), South (Kochi/Vizag), Central (Indore/Nagpur/Raipur), East (Ranchi/Cuttack), Northeast (Guwahati) and West (Pune/Rajkot).

    5. Playoff format

There will be a caravan format in the league, with each team playing against each other twice. After that, the top team will directly qualify for the final. The second and three placed teams will play in the Eliminator, with the winner advancing to the final.
