Cricketers can only play for a maximum 20-25 years at the top level. Depending on when any international player has started playing at the top level, he can play until he is 40 to 45 years old. After the age of 45, it becomes difficult for any cricketer to continue.
Not many players continue playing when they are in their late 30s or early 40s. They announce retirement when they feel the time is right. Not even two months have ended in 2023, but six cricketers have already ended their careers. Here are the six cricketers who have hung up their boots in 2023 so far:
1. One of the top Australian cricketers – Aaron Finch
Former Australian captain Aaron Finch ended his international career earlier today. Having retired from ODIs and not played much red-ball cricket, Finch retired from T20is today.
2. One of the top Indian cricketers – Joginder Sharma
Joginder Sharma is a former T20 World Cup winner like Aaron Finch. Sharma played the last match of his career in T20 World Cup 2007 Final, but he retired in February 2023.
3. One of the top Indian cricketers – Murali Vijay
Murali Vijay lost his place in the Indian Test team and remained unsold in the IPL. He participated in TNPL 2022 but announced retirement in February 2023.
4. Daniel Christian
Australian all-rounder Daniel Christian ended his career from all formats of the game after Big Bash League 2023. He played his last match for Sydney Sixers against Brisbane Heat.
5. Hashim Amla
Former South African opener Hashim Amla was active in county cricket in 2022. He announced retirement in 2023 and joined MI Cape Town as a batting coach.
6. Dwaine Pretorius
Former South African all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius was the first player to retire from international cricket in 2023. Pretorius retired to focus on T20 leagues.
