ICC T20 World Cup 2022 will start on Sunday with the Round 1 of the tournament. There are eight teams in the first round of the competition, namely Sri Lanka, Namibia, UAE, Netherlands, West Indies, Zimbabwe, Scotland and Ireland. Four out of these eight teams will join the Super 12 stage.
UAE team has returned to the T20 World Cup this year after missing out on the previous edition. The United Arab Emirates have named a strong squad for this marquee event. Interestingly, there are six cricketers in the UAE squad who were born in India. Here’s a list of those six names.
1. Karthik Meiyappan will play for UAE in ICC T20 World Cup 2022
21-year-old leg-spin bowler Karthik Meiyappan was a part of a net bowler’s group for IPL. He has impressed fans with his bowling, and the Chennai-born player will turn up for UAE this year.
2. CP Rizwan will captain UAE in ICC T20 World Cup 2022
The captain of the United Arab Emirates for the mega event is CP Rizwan. The 34-year-old middle-order batter was born in Kerala.
3. Chirag Suri will play for UAE in ICC T20 World Cup 2022
Chirag Suri is the only UAE player to have earned an IPL contract. The Delhi-born player was part of the Gujarat Lions team in 2017.
4. Vriitya Aravind
Vice-captain and wicket-keeper of the United Arab Emirates team, Vriitya Aravind was also born in India. The 20-year-old’s birthplace is Chennai.
5. Aryan Lakra
Punjab-born player Aryan Lakra will represent the United Arab Emirates as well. He is a 20-year-old left-arm spin bowler.
6. Alishan Sharafu
19-year-old opening batter Alishan Sharafu was born in Kerala. He will be one of the players to watch out for from the UAE squad when they play in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
