The International Cricket Council (ICC) runs the big tournaments happening across the world. They also take care of the bilateral series and the FTP of Test-playing nations as well as the qualifiers for the lower-ranked teams in international cricket.
ICC’s duty is also to ensure that there is no corruption in the game. It has its own set of rules, which the full members as well as the associate members have to follow to keep playing cricket. In case of a failure, the board ends up suspending the members, thereby stopping them from playing international matches. Here’s a list of the seven teams which have been suspended.
1. ICC suspended Sri Lanka today
Sri Lanka is the only world champion nation to feature on the list. The island nation received a suspension today from the ICC due to its serious breach in the obligations as a member.
2. ICC suspended Zambia in 2021
Not many cricket fans would know that Zambia also has a cricket team. Zambia was a member of the board from 2003 onwards. They got suspended in 2021.
Asian country Brunei joined the International Cricket Council as a member in 2002. 13 years later, the board suspended them in 2015.
African nation Morocco won everyone’s hearts at the FIFA World Cup last year in Qatar. However, in cricket, Morocco team has been suspended since the year 2019.
Netherlands captain Scott Edwards was born in Tonga. His home nation was suspended by the International Cricket Council in the year 2014.
