IPL and CPL are two of the top T20 leagues in the world. The Indian Premier League started in the year 2008 with eight franchises from different parts of India competing against each other for the coveted title. The Caribbean Premier League began in 2013. CPL 2022 will begin on August 31 later this year.
The draft for CPL 2022 happened earlier this month, where several players earned contracts from the six franchises. Many fans would know that there are common team owners in IPL and CPL. The owners of Kolkata Knight Riders, Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals also own franchises in CPL, namely Trinbago Knight Riders, St. Lucia Kings and Barbados Royals.
Interestingly, the following nine players are teammates in the Indian Premier League as well as the Caribbean Premier League.
1. Dwaine Pretorius and Dwayne Bravo – CSK in IPL and St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots in CPL
CSK and St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots won their respective leagues in 2021. Dwayne Bravo and Dominic Drakes were a part of both teams last year. This year, Drakes has left the team, but Bravo will unite with his CSK teammate Dwaine Pretorius at the Patriots.
2. Sherfane Rutherford and Wanindu Hasaranga – RCB in IPL and St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots in CPL
Another common pair in the two leagues is that of Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga and West Indies’ Sherfane Rutherford. They played together for RCB in IPL 2022 and will represent St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots soon.
3. Quinton de Kock, Kyle Mayers and Jason Holder
Lucknow Super Giants players Quinton de Kock, Kyle Mayers and Jason Holder will play together for the Barbados Royals in CPL 2022. The Barbados-based franchise have a very strong squad this year.
4. Andre Russell and Sunil Narine
Andre Russell and Sunil Narine have been the backbone of the Kolkata Knight Riders team in the IPL. The team owners are so happy with their performance that they have also picked them to play for the Trinbago Knight Riders.
