Rishabh Pant and MS Dhoni are two of the best wicket-keeper batters in the world. While Dhoni has retired from all formats of international cricket now, Pant is gradually rising to the top. Both are the captains of their respective franchises in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League.
Pant made his captaincy debut against his idol MS Dhoni last year in the first phase of IPL 2021. He led his team to a comfortable win. However, later in the tournament, the Chennai Super Kings defeated the Delhi Capitals in Qualifier 1 to book a place in the finals.
Many fans have compared Rishabh Pant to MS Dhoni although the former is still very young and has played international cricket for a few years only. The new assistant coach of the Delhi Capitals team Shane Watson recently gave his views on the Dhoni and Pant debate.
Watson played under the captaincy of MS Dhoni during the 2018, 2019 and 2020 seasons of the Indian Premier League. At that time, he was a member of the Chennai Super Kings team. Watson will now spend time with Pant, having joined the DC coaching staff.

During a virtual press conference ahead of IPL 2022, Shane Watson spoke about Pant’s growth and fans comparing him to Dhoni.
“Rishabh and MS Dhoni are very different people and cricketers. They have high skills and Rishabh as a leader is very cool and calm and this is what I have seen with MS as well. To be honest, to see the skill Rishabh has alone, take away his leadership,” said Watson.
IPL 2022 will start this Saturday with a battle between last year’s champions CSK and runners-up Kolkata Knight Riders. DC will be in action on Sunday afternoon against the Mumbai Indians.
