Usually, teams are hesitant to spend money in the first few minutes of the auctions. Especially if they have doubts about certain players, they will not raise the bid. Here, we take a look at the list of three players who shockingly went unsold in the first round of the IPL 2022 Mega Auctions.
While some players get a chance in the accelerated round, a few do not get this opportunity. Hence, they go unsold in the auctions and need to come back in the next edition.
1) David Miller (was later picked by Gujarat Titans)
His stocks were down back then and hence, there were no takers for Miller. However, Gujarat Titans needed a finisher and hence, they picked him at the end. It was a brilliant move as Miller did well for the franchise and helped them win the trophy. For the next cycle, as well, some teams will look at Miller as the finisher.
2) Suresh Raina went unsold in IPL 2022 Mega Auctions
Suresh Raina is one of the players who shockingly went unsold in the first round in IPL 2022 Mega Auctions. One of the legends of the league, it was the end of his IPL career after no team showed interest in him. Although he came back in the later rounds, still no team picked him up. It was probably his poor form that led to this situation. Later, he retired from all forms of the game.
3) Steve Smith
Even in IPL 2021, Steve Smith was picked at around his base price by Delhi Capitals. Hence, there were no bidders expected for him in IPL 2022. Therefore, it was not a surprise that he was unsold. That said, he could find a contract for IPL 2025. His T20 form is better now and Ricky Ponting and Punjab Kings could look at him as a skipper.
