Former Indian cricketer turned commentator and cricket analyst, Aakash Chopra has picked Ravichandran Ashwin as the Best Test bowler of the Year for India.
Indian team has had quite a good year in terms of Test cricket, starting of with the historic series win against Australia earlier this year, followed by dethroning the England team at home.
There came a blip in the World Test Championship Final against New Zealand, which India lost, but made a good recovery to against England as Virat Kohli’s men were leading 2-1 after 4 matches, but the 5th match was cancelled due to COVID-19.
And just recently, the Virat Kohli led side won the 2 match Test series 1-0 against New Zealand, after the first match had ended in a draw. Test cricket action is still to come for India as they will be travelling to South Africa later this month.
India saw a number of players stepping up their game, the likes of Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, Hanuma Vihari, Ravichandran Ashwin throughout the year.

In a recently uploaded video on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra picked Ravichandran Ashwin as India’s best Test bowler to 2021.

Chopra stated that this has been an interesting year of Test cricket for India, we saw the rise of Mohammed Siraj, Bumrah was, but he at the end went with Ravichandran Ashwin as India’s best Test bowler of 2021.
He further opined that Ashwin has taken 52 wickets already this year, even though he didn’t play the Gabba Test, the series against England, and if he would have played all the matches, then maybe he would have taken 70 plus wickets.
He also talked about how he has surpassed Harbhajan Singh‘s 417 Test wickets record and opined that he will soon catch up to Kapil Dev as well and might even end up passing that too.
Ashwin in Test in 2021
Ravichandran Ashwin has played 8 Test matches this year in 2021, starting of with the 3rd Test match of the Australia series and the last match he has played was against New Zealand. In the mentioned 8 matches, Ashwin has bagged 52 wickets. He has three 5-wicket haul throughout the years and a couple of 4 wickets and 3 wickets in an inning.
Ravi Ashwin is set to travel with the Indian team to South Africa for the upcoming 3 match Test series the Proteas. That means that Ashwin will have another Test match to play this year, beginning from 26th December, while the remaining 2 matches will be played in the new year.
