Virat Kohli shocked the entire world after he decided to step down as India’s Test captain. The last 5 to 6 months for Virat Kohli has been only stepping down as India’s captain, first T20, then ODI and now Test.

With him now out of the picture, and vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane likely to be dropped from the team, the major question is who will be India’s next Test captain.

Aakash Chopra on Rohit Sharma as India’s Test Captain

In a video uploaded on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra stated that though Rohit Sharma is the obvious choice to be the Test captain, the major problem with him is his fitness.

Rohit Sharma was picked in India’s squad for the Test series against South Africa, but was ruled out after suffering an hamstring injury. He was also dropped for the ODI series due to the same.

Chopra also touched upon the possibility of KL Rahul being the captain. He said even KL is obvious choice as he has grown his stature as Test player. But also questioned whether he is among the natural leaders of the team.

BCCI is yet to disclose any name for the position, but has confirmed that it’s the selectors’ decision and they will pick the new Test captain. Along with Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant’s name is also floating around, while pacer Jasprit Bumrah has also expressed interest in leading the team in the longest format of the game.

India’s next Test series is against Sri Lanka from the 25th February, and thus, the selectors have enough time to discuss and think about the captaincy option.
