The new full-time captain of the Indian ODI cricket team Rohit Sharma has affirmed that the team has been unable to find a proper finisher after former Indian cricket team skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni called it a day on his international career. Dhoni retired from all formats of cricket on August 15, 2020, but he played his last game for India back in the 2019 World Cup.

After that game, India have used Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya as finishers. They did an excellent job for the Indian cricket team in the 2020 ODI series against Australia. However, at the moment, both players are injured, which is why the Indian cricket team does not have a proper finisher.

In a recent press conference ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League series against the West Indies cricket team, Rohit Sharma spoke about the absence of backups in the finisher’s role. Here’s what Sharma had to say:

That is a very crucial time in a match. After MS Dhoni’s retirement, we haven’t been able to find a player in that role. Hardik has batted at that number, Jadeja too. But we need to have more backups ready for that position.”
