Former Indian cricket team player RP Singh has suggested that the SunRisers Hyderabad should think about dropping captain Kane Williamson from the playing XI. SRH retained Kane as their number one player for INR 14 crore ahead of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. Fans were baffled to see that because SRH preferred him over the likes of Jonny Bairstow, David Warner and Rashid Khan.

Williamson, who had done well in the Indian Premier League in the past, has failed to make an impact in the 2022 edition of the tournament. The right-handed batter has managed 208 runs as an opening batter, with his strike rate being 92.86. Youngster Abhishek Sharma has much better numbers than his captain as an opener for SunRisers Hyderabad this season.

Giving his honest opinion on Kane Williamson, RP Singh said on Cricbuzz Live today:

“It’s a good thought (to have Williamson as a floater) but another thought is that he can be kept out of the XI too. How long are you going to carry him? He is a professional cricketer as well. Just accept that performances aren’t happening. Although Kane Williamson is a great human being and a good captain, they are messing up with one batting position.”

Who can replace Kane Williamson as the captain of SunRisers Hyderabad?

SunRisers Hyderabad have three good options, namely Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran and Bhuvneshwar Kumar available for captaincy. If they decide to bench Kane Williamson for tonight’s match against five-time champions Mumbai Indians, SRH can give a place to New Zealand’s hard-hitting wicket-keeping batter Glenn Phillips in the playing XI.

It is a do-or-die match for the SunRisers Hyderabad tonight. It will be interesting to see if they persist with Williamson or drop him from the team. The match between SRH and MI will start at 7:30 PM IST tonight.
