Axar Patel bowled an excellent spell of 2/10 against the Punjab Kings last night in the 32nd match of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. His brilliant bowling performance helped the Delhi Capitals register a big win in their seventh match of the IPL 2022 season.
Patel picked up the big wickets of Liam Livingstone and Jitesh Sharma to trouble the Punjab Kings in the first innings. Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and decided to field first at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. The pitch was good for batting, but PBKS were bundled out for just 115 runs in their 20 overs.
The Delhi Capitals spinners were on fire in Mumbai last night. Lalit Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel bagged two wickets each. Even Khaleel Ahmed took two wickets for his team. For Punjab Kings, Jitesh Sharma was the top-scorer with a 32-run knock. None of the other batters could touch the 30-run mark in the innings.
Kuldeep Yadav shared his Man of the Match award with Axar Patel
Kuldeep Yadav was adjudged the Man of the Match for his two-wicket haul against the Punjab Kings, but he decided to share the award with his teammate Axar Patel. Fans should note that Yadav had figures of 2/24, while Patel’s figures were 2/10. Also, Patel dismissed two main batters, whereas Yadav took the wickets of Kagiso Rabada and Nathan Ellis.
After the first innings of the match, Axar Patel had a chat with Harsha Bhogle, where he gave an interesting reply when asked why he conceded only 10 runs to Punjab Kings.
“I am a Gujarati that’s why (conceding just 10 runs). I think I was bowling my best deliveries from the first ball itself. I wasn’t thinking about the dimensions of the ground that one side is short so I’ll bowl a little outside off and slower or quicker.”
