David Warner has been going through a rough patch in the recent couple of weeks as the Aussie was made to sit on the stands during the IPL 2021 season, after not able to contribute massively towards the team’s performance.

David Warner played 8 matches in this year’s IPL and scored only 195 runs, which is pretty underwhelming considering the calibre of player he is. He was stripped of his captaincy role at the franchise and was later dropped from the team, and spend the remainder of the season on the stands.

David Warner situation was dealt harshly: Brett Lee

Former Australian pacer Brett Lee feels that David Warner’s situation with Sunrisers Hyderabad was dealt pretty harshly by the 1 time IPL winning franchise, and the most interesting fact is that, it was David Warner who guided Hyderabad to their first IPL trophy in 2016.

Brett Lee in a column for ICC, backed the Australian opening batsman stating that Australia is loaded with talent and the key one of them is David Warner. He further added that he is saving the runs for his national team after a dry spell in the IPL and his situation was dealt very harshly by Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Warner continued to struggle as he could only score 1 runs from the 2 warm-up matches that Australia played. He got out for golden duck against New Zealand while could only score 1 run against India.

Australia is one of the most successful team in the world of cricket having won the ICC Cricket World Cup the most, 5 times. But the Kangaroos are yet to taste success in the shortest format of the game. Lee also backed Australia to succeed in this year’s T20 World Cup, but believes that the bench strength of India, England and New Zealand keeps them at front.

Australia is placed in a tough group in the Super 12 as they will be competing with England, South Africa, West Indies and the 2 teams that comes through from round 1.
