Umran Malik is the fastest bowler in India right now. The right-arm quick from Jammu and Kashmir created a unique record by winning 14 consecutive Swiggy Instamart Fastest Delivery of the Match awards in IPL 2022. Soon after, Malik also won the Emerging Player of the Season award.
After a breakthrough season with SunRisers Hyderabad, Umran Malik earned place in Team India for the series against South Africa. However, the team management kept him on the bench for all the games. Umran retained his place in the squad for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland.
Former Indian cricketer Roger Binny has opined that Umran Malik should get a go because of his brute force. Speaking in Mumbai recently, Binny was quoted as saying as follows by India Today:
“There is definitely going to be a bigger bunch of fast bowlers coming through now. And he (Umran) should be given a chance straight away because he has proved that he is quick and if you saw him bowl some of the yorkers in the IPL that was brute force. So you cannot keep a youngster out for that long.”
Dilip Vengsarkar wants Umran Malik to play for India in ICC T20 World Cup 2022
The Indian team is one of the 16 participants in this year’s ICC T20 World Cup 2022. Former Indian selector Dilip Vengsarkar was present along with Roger Binny. Dilip backed Roger’s words and said that Umran Malik should be on the plane to Australia because he has the hunger to perform well.
It will be interesting to see if Umran Malik makes his debut later tonight in the match against Ireland. The two-match series between India and Ireland will start at The Village from 9:00 PM IST. India are the favorites to win, but they should not take Ireland lightly.
