Lucknow Super Giants skipper KL Rahul recently chatted with Gaurav Kapoor on the show named Breakfast with Champions. During the long interview, the LSG skipper had a discussion about the back story of his name. His mother told him that he was named Rahul because she was a fan of Shah Rukh Khan’s movies, and he would use that name regularly.

However, one of the friends of the cricketer informed him that Shah Rukh Khan’s first movie where he played the character named Rahul was released in 1994, whereas KL Rahul was born in 1992. So, after 26 to 27 years, Rahul understood that the backstory which his mother told him was false.

“So I told one of my friends who knows a lot about Bollywood. He said ‘bro, Shah Rukh’s first Rahul character was in 1994, you were born in 1992. It doesn’t make any sense,'” he mentioned.

KL Rahul explained what his father told him about his name

During the same interview, Rahul mentioned that even his father told a backstory to him about his name. His father is a huge fan of Sunil Gavaskar. While on commentary, his father misheard that the name of Gavaskar’s son is Rahul. His real is Rohan, but since he heard it as Rahul, he named his son after him.

“My dad’s side of the story checks out more. He was a huge Gavaskar fan. He used to hear this name on commentary so many times,” Rahul added.

While the exact back story of his name is not known yet, one thing is for sure, quite a few fans may name their children Rahul in future if the wicket-keeper batter is able to leave a legacy like Sunil Gavaskar. Rahul has done well so far in his career, but he has a lot more potential.
