Dinesh Karthik was the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders team in IPL 2020. But midway during the season, he stepped down as skipper and handed over the team’s reins to Eoin Morgan. Even in IPL 2021, Morgan led the Kolkata-based franchise.
While Eoin Morgan did a good job as the team’s captain, he did not have a great outing as a batter. Hence, the Kolkata Knight Riders released him ahead of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. Interestingly, Morgan went unsold at the mega auction even though he led a franchise to the final in the previous season.
Morgan’s batting woes and injury issues led to him announcing retirement from all formats of international cricket earlier this week. Reacting to his decision to retire, Dinesh Karthik wrote on Twitter:

Dinesh Karthik has revived his international career in 2022
2022 has been a contrasting year for both Dinesh Karthik and Eoin Morgan. While one player has revived his international career, the other has called it a day on his international career. Karthik has made his return to the Indian T20I team.
He impressed fans with his performance in the home T20I series against the South African cricket team, where he scored his maiden T20I fifty. Karthik is likely to play for India in the T20 World Cup.
