Former Indian cricket team opener Sunil Gavaskar has opined that Bhuvneshwar Kumar should be in the Indian squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. Gavaskar feels that Kumar’s ability to swing the white ball makes him a special player. He added that the pace bowlers get assistance from the pitches in Australia, which is why Kumar could be a difference maker.

The second match of the five-game T20I series between the Indian cricket team and the South African cricket team happened last night in Cuttack. The Men in Blue lost the match by four wickets, but Bhuvneshwar Kumar stole the show with a magnificent four-wicket haul in the second innings.

He troubled the South African batters with his swing and picked up three wickets in the powerplay. At one stage, South Africa were 29/3 in a run-chase of 149 runs. However, a top-quality half-century from Heinrich Klaasen ensured that the Proteas earned a 2-0 lead in the series.

“He was just brilliant. The white ball doesn’t swing that much, in the air or off the surface, but he has got that capability. But to have someone like him in Australia, where there will that little bit of more carry and bounce, I think that will be a huge plus.”

Sunil Gavaskar praised Rishabh Pant for using Bhuvneshwar Kumar more in the powerplay overs

During the same discussion, Sunil Gavaskar also appreciated captain Rishabh Pant’s decision to give three overs to Kumar during the powerplay. Kumar is very effective with the new ball, and he proved himself as one of the best powerplay bowlers in the world last night with a memorable spell.

Kumar also took one wicket in the final phase of the match to complete his four-wicket haul. Unfortunately, his stupendous bowling performance went in vain.
