Mumbai Indians are the most successful team in the Indian Premier League history, but in IPL 2022, they have suffered seven defeats on a trot. The Rohit Sharma-led outfit is in the last position on the points table right now with zero points after seven games.

Many members of the cricket universe would think that the chances of Mumbai Indians qualifying for the IPL 2022 playoffs are 0 now. However, the same is not true. They still have a 0.134% chance of finishing in the Top 4 of the points table.

The equation for Mumbai is quite simple to understand but very challenging to execute on the field. Having lost seven matches on a trot, the Mumbai-based franchise need to turn things around completely and build a seven-match winning streak in IPL 2022 to keep their hopes alive.

Mumbai Indians might qualify for IPL 2022 playoffs if they win all of their remaining matches

Even if the Mumbai-based franchise manage to win all of their seven remaining matches, their chances of qualifying will be slim. In the 2011 season, where 10 teams played in IPL, the team that finished fourth had 16 points in their kitty. MI will have 14 points if they manage to win all seven.

The net run rate factor will come into the picture if MI make it to 14 points, which seems very tough, especially after their performance in the first seven matches. Here’s what former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra said about MI’s IPL 2022 performance:

Mumbai made a record no team has ever made in IPL history. No team had lost seven consecutive matches to date, Mumbai Indians have done that now. Whatever they try to do, this team cannot win if Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan don’t score runs.
