Kohli was present in Rajkot for the third ODI against Australia last week. He boarded a flight with the team and traveled to Guwahati for the first warm-up match of Team India ahead of the 2023 World Cup. That match was against England at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium. However, rain abandoned the game after toss.

The Indian squad then took a flight to Trivandrum for the next warm-up match against the Netherlands, but Virat Kohli decided to fly to Mumbai instead. Cricbuzz reported that Kohli went home due to a personal emergency. Now, further details have emerged about Kohli’s availability for the first ICC World Cup match of India against Australia.

India will take on five-time champions Australia in their opening game of the mega event. The venue for the match is the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. As per Cricbuzz, Virat Kohli has some ‘important engagement’ with the International Cricket Council (ICC), who are the organizers of the tournament. Hence, Kohli will be in Mumbai until that work is over.

Virat Kohli will directly head to Chennai instead of joining the team in Trivandrum

The Indian squad is still in Trivandrum and will depart to Chennai mostly tomorrow. Kohli has decided to go to Chennai directly, meaning that he will link up with the squad directly at the team hotel in Chennai.

The Indian team got some well-deserved rest as the two warm-up matches were abandoned due to rain. Indian fans will hope that rain stays away from Chennai when the match between India and Australia takes place on Sunday, October 8.
