The captain of the England Test cricket team Joe Root has once again denied an opportunity to play in the Indian Premier League. Root, who was quite confident last year that his team would clean sweep the New Zealand cricket team and the Indian cricket team at home and then dominate the Australian cricket team in the Ashes 2021-22, feels he needs to spend more time working on Test cricket and the advancement of the England cricket team.

The England Test cricket team has not been performing well since last summer. First, the New Zealand cricket team defeated them in a 2-match series by a scoreline of 1-0. Next, the Indian cricket team came to the United Kingdom and returned with a 2-1 lead in their ICC World Test Championship series. Most recently, the England cricket team went on a tour of Australia, where the Australian cricket team blanked them 4-0 in the Ashes.

The England Test cricket team currently holds the last position in the new cycle of the ICC World Test Championship points table. Addressing a press conference after his team’s thrashing at the hands of the Australian cricket team, Joe Root was asked if he will enroll himself for the upcoming IPL Mega Auction 2022.

“I’ll keep sacrificing as much as I can because I care so much about Test cricket in our country and trying to get us to where we want to be,” the star England top-order batter replied.

Joe Root has never played an IPL match in his career

Although Joe Root is not a regular member of the England T20I cricket team, he is a very good all-rounder in the shortest format of the game. Since he has the captaincy experience, IPL franchises would have shown interest in him.

However, the England Test cricket team captain has given more priority to Test cricket. It will be interesting to see if England’s performances improve.
