Kolkata Knight Riders fast bowler Shivam Mavi is among the top pace bowlers in the country right now. While he has not represented the Indian cricket team at the senior level as of now, he has played for India U-19s and performed exceptionally well.
Talking about his stats in the Indian Premier League, Mavi has played 26 matches, scalping 25 wickets, including one four-wicket haul. The Kolkata Knight Riders did not retain him ahead of IPL 2022 Auction, but the Kolkata-based franchise fought an intense bidding war at the auction to re-sign the youngster for a whopping INR 7.25 crore.
Like many young players, Shivam Mavi has interacted with MS Dhoni during the IPL matches. In a recent interview with India.com, Mavi shared the advice that Dhoni gave to him. That small piece of advice has helped Mavi achieve success as a bowler.
“I had gone to Dhoni during the IPL as I was having problems with setting the field. Dhoni simplified things and explained to me what to do. And his tips have helped me over the past two IPL seasons.”

MS Dhoni has always suggested to keep things simple and focus on the process. He gave a similar tip to Mavi. Here’s what the fast bowler added:
“He also said do not think a lot about it and just focus on what you have to do.”
According to the trends noticed in some of the previous IPL seasons, the final match of the last season likely kicks off the new season. The final match of IPL 2021 was Chennai Super Kings vs. Kolkata Knight Riders. So, it should not be a surprise if Mavi and MS Dhoni’s teams go head-to-head in the IPL 2022 season opener.
